That Q&A had one statement which is not exactly true:
"We simply must return the boards to VT-related posts, particularly VT sports-related posts."
The subscriber board is largely a medium sized clique of fellas musing on multiple topics unrelated to the above, ranging from various ailments (God bless them all) to old-man-yells-at-clouds stuff. Maybe that will change as we get closer to FB season.

You would think in that case he would run towards a friendly media.
He is a at least a little bit of a narcissist and is now in the greatest of honeymoon periods. The fanbase it smitten to have him and smiles at just about anything he says, so I too find it surprising he's been so closed off.

Then they should be able to shake hands like mutually respected gentlemen
after the game, that's all.

I agree with the1st part but I donβt think we trained him. You know hoops
more than most, but it looked to me he regressed as the season progressed. We just didnβt develop him IMO. Itβs like we thought heβd just have the Providence game every night.

Except the radical purists, nobody would lament a wrecking ball to Cassell.
The same folks who like that we play VMI. It's really lack of money

The fact we are signing bench players from the Colonial is really pathetic.
We also didnβt have enough big bodies in the paint to compete. That problem if anything got worse. Can I say had no expectations yet am disappointed? Maybe the roster is still open?

This is bad. At the least he has inside info. Entanglements between college
and pro sports and the gambling industry at the organizational level are even more deep and twisted.

Yeah his measurables look less than Gurdak. Not really a replacement.
It's hard to see this team being any better next year, so far.

Not meant that way. I went to a lot of schools that had a better counter-
part in the county, state, conference, or whatever. But at each stop, I enjoyed myself, made friends, and built my rΓ©sumΓ©. My kids and family members canβt tell the same story.
VT was one of those stops. But by almost every metric, UVA (and W&M for that matter) are better on aggregate. GPA, class rank, SAT/ACT scores, ranking services, AAU status, grant funding, you name it. Itβs OK to acknowledge that, but also that you value the place and the time you spent there, whether it be for your own academic journey, the friends you made, or what followed.
I know what you mean about some of these ranking services. I donβt love them either, because they often overemphasize soft metrics such as reputation and diversity. But out of curiosity, Iβd love to see what ranking system you can find that shows us as overall better.

Nah. Iβm a proud VT grad, but most whoβve lived outside VA/DMV would agree.
Weβre usually better ranked in engineering, but even there, itβs not that much. Both are top 50: 14 vs 35 out of 210. Business and med schools rank wayyy better for them, and just having a law school moves the academic needle.
And hereβs the link:

UVA is better than us in academics and almost all sports. B10 has shown no
remorse in splitting up paired instate rivals.

Here is his post season record:
1 NCAAT win in 7 appearances.
1 NIT win in 2 appearances.
1 CBI win in 2 appearances.
That's over 2002-present, with all postseason activity between the 2009 NCAAT and the 2024 NIT.
Last four years with no NCAA tournaments.
Not captured is the ACCT Championship, for which I am ever grateful, but then we went out unceremoniously in the 1st round.
Is this is A-OK? Why even have a MBB program only to aim for mediocrity?

Thatβs pretty much true of all mainstream menβs sports at VT.
Itβs been a great football offseason, but what I said is true till itβs not. Someone will chime in about wrestling, and Iβm glad weβre good at that, but calling it mainstream is a stretch.

We hung with some good teams but didn't win enough of said games.
The eye test says that about as much as any quantitative metric. I guess we need to beat UVA a deep run in the ACCT with 2 signature wins. At this point I just hope we get over the 20 game regular season hump with the 2 guaranteed games we have left.

Commentators said it - VT couldnβt separate when UM slumped
Did we have TO? Terrible we couldnβt even get a shot off. Time to redeem our last 2H performance.

You did. I was trying to remember who posted how FSU had a big team and
Would give us trouble. Something to that effect. Definitely better than their record. It was during their game vs UVA.

Didnβt you hear? We have injuries. Only team in the conference
with injuries, or a guy or two playing on a bum wheel. The only one.

I think we could but it would take A LOT, so I predict we wonβt until MY
retires at the earliest. Even then, it would take a Franklin level infusion of resources to buy top players and upgrade facilities. We are in a self perpetuating cycle where mediocrity begets more mediocrity, an example of which is Cassel Coliseum. Seems we canβt afford to renovate it, yet I canβt imagine itβs current state isnβt a detractor in the minds of prospective coaches and players.
Sometimes I wonder how much is actual X & O coaching versus simply having better players. Even Pry would have won more with these Franklin recruits, but he couldnβt attract those players or command the cash infusion. MY seems well respected in coaching circles, but until the whole operation is seriously upgraded, this is what weβre going to get.

Weβre just going to have to deal with this till Mike decides to retire.
Then see if VT can pony up for another Franklin or Buzz. Heβs a nice enough guy and weβve doubled down on Franklin, so Iβm OK with that for now.

No. Just not a serious sports school. We threw a bunch of money at football
but until wins happen, Iβm going with that. I like Young. Iβve met him several times. But look up his postseason record and tell me. This is the same school that rehired Brett Pry after three months and where Babcock still gets a paycheck. Some of it is because Virginia is a lot more like Massachusetts or New Jersey than a real southern state like it used to be.
